Field Medical Training Battalion - East
FMTBE CMD SEAL
Home

Field Medical Training Battalion - East is a formal school whose goal is to prepare Enlisted and Officer students for service with the Fleet Marine Force (FMF). Whether you are coming to FMTB-E as an instructor or support staff, our mission is “Training the Navy's finest to serve with the few and the proud”. I know your tour will be a rewarding experience both personally and professionally.

MISSION

To train the Navy's finest to serve with the few and the proud.

VISION

To be recognized by Navy and Marine Corps leadership as the premiere source of training excellence that produces mission ready Sailors in support of the Fleet Marine Force.

Field Medical Training Battalion-East (FMTB-E), Camp Lejeune, North Carolina was initially activated on 8 April 1943 as Medical Field Service School (MFSS), School Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and was located on New River.  The initial goal was to meet the growing requirement in WWII for combat medically trained officers and enlisted personnel of the Navy Medical Department serving with the Marine Corps.  In April 1944, MFSS was reassigned to 2d Medical Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC.  The school was officially deactivated on 31 August 1945 due to the end of WWII.

When North Korean troops crossed the 38th Parallel in June 1950, the school was reactivated on 1 October 1950 as Field Medical Service School (FMSS), Marine Barracks, Camp Lejeune, NC and was relocated to the Montford Point Camp, now known as Camp Johnson.

In 1997, the Chaplain and Religious Program Specialist Expeditionary Skills Training (CREST) Course was added to the training curriculum.  The course included two programs of instruction (POI), one for Chaplains (CREST-CHC) and one for Religious Program Specialists (CREST-RP) to ensure Religious Ministry Team (RMT) personnel had the skills necessary to serve with the Marine Corps.

In July 2000, FMSS was reassigned to Training Command (TRNGCMD), Quantico, VA.  In October 2000, the school celebrated more than fifty years of continuous training and support of the Marine Corps aboard Camp Johnson.

In October 2005, FMSS, Camp Lejeune was designated as the Marine Corps’ Health Services Training and Education Center of Excellence (HSTECOE).  On 14 June 2007, FMSS was renamed FMTB-E to more accurately define the command mission of “training” and align the activity name with established Marine Corps formal schools.

In June 2009, Training and Education Command (TECOM) disestablished the TECOE Program and directed the formal schools that were designated as TECOEs to absorb the functions of their respective TECOE and continue to integrate issues across the Training and Education continuum for their specific occupational field.

On 1 August 2014 the CREST-CHC POI was deactivated.  In March 2015, the CREST Course was renamed Marine Corps Expeditionary and Combat Skills Training (MCECST) Course to more accurately reflect the training of RPs.

Current Active Duty and Reserve officer and enlisted formal training programs conducted by the staff of FMTB-E are:  Field Medical Service Technician (FMST) Course, MCECST Course, Field Medical Service Officer (FMSO) Course, and the Tactical Combat Casualty Care/Combat Lifesaver - Trainers (TCCC/CLS-T) Course.

FMTB–E has received three Meritorious Commendation Streamers in its operational history.

Field Medical Training Battalion-East is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE).
